WHAT THE GERALDINE RESOURCE CENTRE OFFERS

The Geraldine Community Resource Centre aims to provide for the social needs of people living in the wider Geraldine district. We support our community in a variety of ways, such as:

LOCAL INFORMATION

If you need help to find the contact details for a group or organisation, or want to know how to access other information or resources then please come and see us or give us a ring. We have built up an extensive database of contacts and other information and can provide help to answer most queries.

Please contact us to see if we can be of help.

COMMUNITY EVENT DIARY

The Resource Centre collates a monthly Community Diary which is published and distributed free to our district by The Geraldine News. This is a free service which is available to all Geraldine not-for-profit groups and organisations.

Contact us to list an event or activity.

EMPLOYMENT SERVICE

We provide a local employment service which lists all job vacancies currently available in the Geraldine district - this list is updated daily so if you are looking for employment please call in on a regular basis to check out the latest listings. We also offer a free CV writing service to help you find employment. Similarly employers are welcome to contact us directly with available positions for listing.

SUPPORT SERVICES

The Resource Centre hosts a wide range of agencies who provide services to the Geraldine community. We are also available to assist with support for people in our community as and when help is needed most. For example, recently we acted as a collection point for donations of household goods and money for a young local family that lost all their possessions in a house fire.

ASSISTING THOSE NEW TO GERALDINE

Moving to a new town, whilst exciting, can also be a little daunting. At the Geraldine Resource Centre we aim to make settling into your new town easy by offering advice on essential services and providers, as well as answering questions that you may have. Drop by the Resource Centre for a chat and to pick up a copy of our Newcomers Information Pack.

ROOM HIRE

We hire out rooms to social agencies based in Timaru and beyond at affordable rates so that they can provide their services locally for Geraldine people. We also support not-for-profit groups and organisations by offering a heavily discounted rate too. Our meeting room and office space are ideal for business people meeting with clients as well. Contact us if you need to hire a room in Geraldine.

Resource Centre Staff and Volunteers

Geraldine Community Resource Centre is governed and operated by an independent, locally-based, charitable trust. Our Trustees are: Mark Hayward (Chairperson), Richard Taylor, Kaye Kerr, Dave (Grumpy) Moss & Joe Sharp.

A brief history

The Geraldine Community Resource Centre was established in 2007 for the purpose of meeting the diverse needs of all people living in the Geraldine community by providing access locally to essential information and services.

We are governed by an independent charitable trust so we are able to tailor our services to effectively meet current local needs. We have done this very successfully so demand for our services has grown exponentially from an average of 122 clients accessing our services per month in 2008/9, to an average of 600 clients per month in 2016/17. Similarly the range of service providers has also increased markedly over this period.

Our funding

Geraldine Community Resource Centre is a locally-based, independent, organisation that does not receive any regular income from government or council sources. Approximately 25% of our annual income is generated from room rentals and we are fortunate to receive ongoing funding from our main sponsor, Geraldine Licensing Trust.

We are also thankful for receiving several charitable grants and donations in recent years, including:

Lottery Community Funding Lottery
Community Trust of Mid & South Canterbury donations
COGS grants
United Way donations
Southern Trust donations
