Best Things to do in Geraldine this Spring!

Spring in Geraldine is a glorious time – not only because this is when the town becomes a riot of colour and verdant with new growth, but also because it marks the beginning of the busy event’s season.

As November romps in we have just enjoyed the perfection that is always a Geraldine Summer Fete day and next comes the Geraldine Festival!

The Summer Fete is held in the grounds of Stover, the working farm of the McKenzie family, just outside Geraldine.  Bursting with hundreds of high-quality stalls, it is New Zealand’s finest home, garden & lifestyle fete, attracting people from every corner of New Zealand. The Fete is about getting friends & family together for a day of indulgence and elegance.

Many of the boutique stores of Geraldine also offer exclusive deals on Fete day, so everyone heads into town afterwards for more shopping and dinner.

The Geraldine Festival, previously known as the Art and Plants Festival, is held over Canterbury Anniversary weekend from 12th to 15th November.

The Alpine Energy Art Exhibition grand opening on the evening of Thursday 12th November marks the opening of the festival which boasts open gardens all weekend, shows galore, an art trail and two awesome market days to do all that Christmas shopping!

The Battle of the Sounds has returned due to popular demand.  This competition will see a range of musical artists perform on the main stage on the Domain Oval on the Saturday to be in to win from a prize pool of more than $10,000.

The Page and Post Booksellers is a new independent bookstore that opened in Geraldine after the end of lockdown.  Belinda (a former librarian) and husband Joe are passionate about literature and regularly host book launches and book club events.  In November PJ McKay is dropping by to promote her book The Telling Time.

There is also live music, theatre and so much more happening through November and into December.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to visit the Barker’s Foodstore & Eatery, recently celebrating their 1st anniversary, then make sure you head there to sample from the menu and enjoy the vistas over the blooming and lush rhododendron Dell below.

The Royal India has just started serving the most amazing cocktails which will definitely be a hit this Summer.

Race Day, on 28th November, at the historic Orari Racecourse, officially kicks off the festive event calendar for Geraldine.  It’s a chance to dress up and enjoy a day out with family and friends before the silly season really kicks into high gear.

And if you just want to get away from it all Geraldine and Peel Forest boast amazing walks, stunning views and cycling for all levels.

Whatever you do this November make sure you include a visit to Geraldine, the place to be, naturally!
