Geraldine is served by a volunteer Civil Defence Team lead by Councillor Gavin Oliver.
When a Civil Defence emergency takes place, the volunteer team set up an Operations Centre in Geraldine from which they coordinate the emergency services and volunteers to manage the crisis. The Operations Centre is not open to the public.
As part of the response in any crisis, Civil Defence operate Welfare Centres in the community which are specifically set up to welcome the public, provide information, assist with accommodation if required and make people feel comfortable.
During a Civil Defence Emergency, you should ‘like’ and ‘follow’ the Timaru district Council Facebook page for current real-time information about the emergency, where the Welfare Centres are located and other important details.
